Treatment register and campaign notebook

Compulsory register for all farms using crop protection agents, which tells the story of everything that happens on the farm from sowing to harvesting.

What the Campaign Notebook Must Contain

The Campaign Notebook must obligatorily contain certain data, namely:

  • The name of the farm;
  • The name of the crop treated and its extension expressed in hectares;
  • The date of treatment;
  • The plant protection product used;
  • Its quantity (expressed in Kg or Litres);
  • The adversities that made the treatment necessary.

By correctly recording the cultivation operations and the data of the individual production units, from sowing (or from the beginning of the production cycle) to harvesting, and by precisely identifying each individual production batch, it is possible to create a true identity card for the product that arrives on consumers’ tables or in the previous links in the chain.

Who should fill it in

The Campaign notebook must be completed by the farm owner or by the agricultural assistance centres following authorisation by the territorially competent ASL.

In addition to these cases, there are others:

  • if the user of plant protection products is different from the farm owner, the latter must sign the logbook at the end of the calendar year;
  • If the user is neither the owner nor the purchaser of the products, the register may also be completed by a different person provided that he or she has the owner’s authorisation (to be kept together with the register);
  • When treatments are carried out on behalf of third parties, the register is filled in either by the owner of the business or by the contractors and validated by the owner;
  • In the case of producers’ cooperatives that purchase plant protection products, the register must be kept at the association’s registered office and it is the legal representative’s responsibility to fill it in, subject to delegation by the members.

Conservation and standards

The register must be kept for at least 3 years following the year to which the interventions refer and must be kept together with the purchase invoices of the products and a copy of the purchase forms with the relevant hazard classification.

The reference legislation to be taken into consideration is Legislative Decree 150/2012 and the circular CIRCULAR 30 October 2002 of Mipaf.
